The Investment Professionals in the Rantum Capital team are either focusing on private debt or private equity, or are generalists working on both strategies.

Fund administration is carried out in-house with dedicated staff.

Next to the investment professionals, Rantum Capital has 16 Industrial Partners, which are also co-shareholders of the management company. The Industrial Partners contribute their industry know-how and help source, analyse, select and monitor portfolio companies. All Industrial Partners invest their own money into the Rantum Capital funds.

Previously CEO of Morgan Stanley Bank AG and Country Head of Morgan Stanley for Germany & Austria. Studied business, philosophy and political sciences and graduated with a Master’s degree from the University of Mannheim; afterwards completed a Ph.D. in economics at the University of Stuttgart.

Marc Pahlow

Marc Pahlow

Before Rantum Capital, Marc was an investment professional in the European corporate private equity team of Carlyle working on large-cap and Mittelstand buyouts in the German-speaking region. Previously he collected work experience in investment banking and strategy consulting at Goldman Sachs and at McKinsey & Company. He graduated with Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in business from WHU Koblenz and an MBA degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a Kozmetsky Scholar.

Carsten Olberding

Carsten Olberding

Carsten joined Rantum Capital as Managing Director in May 2014 and was involved in all transactions of Rantum Private Debt Fund I. His career prior to Rantum spans more than two decades of senior leadership experience in subordinated and senior lending with Deutsche Bank, IKB, DZ Bank and most recently as the director for the mezzanine portfolio of Haspa, the largest German savings bank. Carsten also spent several years in the workout-division of IKB. He graduated with a Master’s degree in business from the University of Applied Sciences Landshut.

Gilles Djordjevic

Gilles Djordjevic

Gilles Djordjevic joined Rantum Capital in 2019. Previously at KUKA AG as Member of the Executive Committee and CEO of one of three group companies of Kukas. Worked in senior executive positions in strategic asset management at Dubai International Capital and ORN Capital/London, and in M&A at Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse. Gilles holds an MBA from University of St. Gallen and Ivey Business School.

Patrick Lackenbucher

Patrick Lackenbucher

Patrick Lackenbucher has over 20 years of experience in M&A, private equity and capital markets. Most recently he worked for the private equity company Bregal Unternehmerkapital. Prior to that he worked for Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley. At Morgan Stanley amongst others he was responsible for the investment banking business in Austria. Mr. Lackenbucher holds degrees from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and the University of St. Gallen. Mr. Lackenbucher is Managing Director with focus on Austria.

Markus Wenz

Markus Wenz

Markus joined Rantum in an equity investment role in June 2020. Prior to this, he worked at DPE Deutsche Private Equity as well as in M&A at Morgan Stanley and Greenhill. Markus studied business management at the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel and at the Tsinghua University in Beijing. Markus also completed a master’s degree in Accounting and Finance at the London School of Economics.

Florian Feder

Florian Feder

Florian joined Rantum Capital in October 2019 to focus on both debt and equity investments.  Prior to joining Rantum Capital, Florian co-led the private equity investment team of a well-known family office in London. Previously, he was an Associate Director at Terra Firma Capital Partners, a global private equity firm, where he focused on subordinated debt investments across several industries and geographies. He started his career as a corporate lawyer at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York. He earned a B.A. from Brown University, a 1. Staatsexamen in Law from Hamburg University and an LL.M. in Financial and Corporate Law from Fordham University. Florian is a member of the New York bar.

Before starting at Rantum Capital to focus on equity investments, Andreas gained work experience in strategy consulting, transactional services and corporate audit, in particular in the packaging industry as well as the industrial services sector. He graduated with Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in business administration from the University of Mannheim.

Before joining Rantum Capital to focus both on debt and equity investments, Philipp gained work experience in private equity at Deutsche Beteiligungs AG, in strategy consulting at Accenture and Arthur D. Little and in management consulting at Ebner Stolz. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Management from ESCP Europe in Paris and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Düsseldorf.

Before joining Rantum Capital, Maximiliam gained work experience in transaction advice, in corporate M&A and in auditing at Livingstone Partners, Daimler AG and Ernst & Young. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Management with focus in Finance and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Mannheim.

Udo Klaeren

Udo Klaeren

Mr. Klaeren is responsible for tax & finance at Rantum Capital and also acts as its Chief Compliance Officer. Previously, Mr. Klaeren was with General Electric, most recently as Head of Tax EMEA. Before, he started his career time in various positions with Deutsche Telekom and KPMG. Mr. Klaeren is managing partner of the tax consulting firm KLAEREN. He holds a degree in business administration from the University of Trier and received his appointment as chartered tax advisor in 2002.

Before joining Rantum Capital, Anna-Maria gained work experience in auditing with a particular focus on Financial Services and Asset Management at KPMG. Anna holds a Bachelor degree in Business from Cooperative State University Mannheim and will shortly receive her Master of Science degree from University of Applied Sciences Frankfurt.

Dr. Siegfried Schwung

Dr. Siegfried Schwung

Dr. Schwung is attorney-at-law and was for a long time the General Counsel and Head of Corporate Development of KUKA AG, Augsburg. Until then he headed the law office of Thümmel, Schütze & Partner in Singapore and served before in various functions in the Daimler group of companies, e.g. as General Counsel Truck in Stuttgart, General  Counsel Product in Sindelfingen, Chefsyndikus DaimlerChrysler Services AG in Berlin and General Counsel for Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. in Tuscaloosa, AL. He studied law at the universities of Mainz and Dijon.

Mr Stefan Winkeljohann currently supports the investment team as a research assistant, besides pursuing a doctorate degree on ESG topics. He has previously gained experience in private equity and debt, M&A and venture capital at Rantum Capital, Rothschild & Co, Global Founders Capital and the company accelerator, Techstars. Stefan graduated with a Master’s degree in Management and Digital Business from IE Business School in Madrid and a Bachelor’s degree in General Management from the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel.

Dr. Michael Rogowski

Dr. Michael Rogowski is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Machine Making, Capital Goods, Technology & Automation. He is looking back on a long-term career as CEO of Voith (one of the largest German family-owned machine makers). He is also the former president of the BDI (Federation of German Industries, the largest umbrella association of the German economy) and honorary Chairman of the German association of Machine Makers. He holds a Master in Business Engineering from the Technical University of Karlsruhe and a PhD from the Technical University of Karlsruhe.

Wolfgang Hartmann

Wolfgang Hartmann

Chairman of the Investment Committee (Debt). Mr. Hartmann is the Chairman of the Investment Committee of Rantum’s debt activities. He spent his professional career with Commerzbank, most recently as member of the executive board and Chief Risk Officer and before that as Chief Credit Officer. Next to his involvement with Rantum Capital, he is the honorary Chairman of the Frankfurt Institute for Risk Management and Regulation and teaches risk management courses at the University of Frankfurt. Wolfgang Hartmann holds a Master degree in Economics from the University of Frankfurt.

Dr. Lothar Steinebach

Dr. Lothar Steinebach is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Chemicals. He is looking back on a successful career as long-term CFO of Henkel, the DAX-30 chemicals company. Currently he is also member of the supervisory boards of ThyssenKrupp (the DAX-30 steelmaker), Altana (the large family-owned German chemicals company) and Carl Zeiss (manufacturer of optical systems). Dr. Steinebach holds a law degree from the University of Mainz and an LLM degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

Dr. Hans-Joachim Körber

Dr. Körber is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Retail, Consumer Goods, Food & Beverage. He is the long-term CEO of Metro, the DAX-30 German retailer. He started his career at Oetker Group (foods) and Söhnlein Rheingold (beverages). He holds a Ph.D. in business from the Technical University of Berlin and Master’s degrees in business as well as Brewery Sciences from Technical University of Berlin.

Dr. Karl-Ludwig Kley

Dr. Karl-Ludwig Kley is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Healthcare & Pharma. He was previously long-term CEO of Merck, the German DAX-30 pharma company. Currently Dr. Kley is Chairman of E.ON (the DAX-30 utility) and Lufthansa, member of the supervisory board of BMW and non-executive director of Verizon (the Fortune-100 US telecom company). He holds a Ph.D. in law from the LMU University of Munich.

Karlheinz Kögel

Mr. Kögel is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for IT, Digital & Media. He is the founder and long-term CEO of Media Control and l’tur, two successful Mittelstand companies in the media and tourism space. He is also the initiator of the German Media Award (Deutscher Medienpreis) and representative of the Clinton Foundation in Europe.

Thomas Ebeling

Mr. Ebeling is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for IT, Digital & Media, Healthcare & Pharma. He is the former CEO of ProSieben.Sat1 (the German DAX-30 media company) and is currently member of several supervisory boards, e.g. Bayer (the DAX-30 healthcare company). He previous held various senior positions at Novartis, most recently as executive board member responsible for the pharmaceuticals division. Mr. Ebeling holds a graduate degree in psychology from the University of Hamburg.

Prof. Dr. Ewald Nowotny is Rantum´s Industrial Partner for Macroeconomics, financial services and Austria. He is the former Governor of the Austrian Central Bank (OeNB), Member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB), CEO of BAWAG P.S.K. and Member of the Board of the European Investment Bank. He is currently President of the Austrian Society for European policy (ÖGfE) and Member of the University Council of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration.

Dr. h. c. Frank-Jürgen Weise is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Logistics, Services, Staffing & HR. After having successfully founded, stock listed and sold national logistics champion Microlog Logistics AG, Frank Weise decided to give back some of his experience to society and served as president of Germany’s National Labour Agency (BA) from 2004-2017 as well as the National Refugee Agency (BAMF) from 2015-2016. He is currently the acting chairman of the board of Hertie-Foundation since 2014.

Mr. Eberhardt is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Automotive, Metal-processing and Industry 4.0. Currently he is Chairman of MTU AeroEngines (DAX-100 aerospace company) and member of the supervisory board of ElringKlinger (SDAX automotive supplier). Dr. Alfred Tacke is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Energy, Infrastructure & Business Services. He is the former CEO of STEAG (the fifth largest German utility) and previously also served as state secretary in the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. He earned a degree in business administration from the University of Freiburg and Berlin and a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Oldenburg.

Burchard von Arnim

Mr. von Arnim is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Tax & Accounting. He is the founder and CEO of von Arnim Private Consulting GmbH, a mid-market tax advisory, audit and accounting firm with offices in Dusseldorf and Hamburg, mainly advising small and mid- market companies and their founders on topics such as M&A and the structuring of generational transfers. Mr von Arnim started his career at the German audit firm BDO Wirtschaftspruüfung AG. He earned a Diplom-Kaufmann (M.B.A. equivalent) from the University of Cologne. He is a certified public accountant in Germany (Wirtschaftsprüfer).

Prof. Dr. Franz Guenthner is Senior Advisor for IT, Software & Digital Disruption at Rantum Capital. He can look back on a long international academic career and is a worldwide acknowledged pioneer in the area of internet search engines. He occupied the Chair of Computational Linguistics at Munich’s Ludwig-Maximilians-University from 1990 to 2013. Prof. Dr. Guenthner contributed to the success of several startups in the IT and online search space, including AltaVista and AlltheWeb.
