Before founding Rantum Capital, Dr. Dirk Notheis was CEO of Morgan Stanley Bank AG and Country Head of Morgan Stanley for Germany & Austria. He studied Business, Philosophy and Political Sciences and graduated with a Master’s degree from the University of Mannheim. Afterwards Dirk completed a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Stuttgart.

Before founding Rantum Capital, Marc Pahlow was an investment professional in the European corporate private equity team of Carlyle working on large-cap and Mittelstand buyouts in the German-speaking region. Previously he gained work experience in investment banking and strategy consulting at Goldman Sachs and at McKinsey & Company. Marc graduated with Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Business from WHU Koblenz and an MBA degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a Kozmetsky Scholar.

Carsten Olberding joined Rantum Capital as Managing Director in May 2014 and was involved in the majority of Private Debt transactions. His career prior to Rantum spans more than two decades of senior leadership experience in subordinated and senior lending with Deutsche Bank, IKB, DZ Bank and most recently as the director for the mezzanine portfolio of Haspa, the largest German savings bank. Carsten also spent several years in the workout-division of IKB. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Business from the University of Applied Sciences Landshut.

Gilles Djordjevic joined Rantum Capital in 2019. Previously he worked at KUKA AG as Member of the Executive Committee and CEO of one of its three group companies. He worked in senior executive positions in strategic asset management at Dubai International Capital and ORN Capital, and in M&A at Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse. Gilles holds an MBA from University of St. Gallen and Ivey Business School.

Florian Feder joined Rantum Capital in October 2019 to focus on both debt and equity investments. Prior to joining Rantum Capital, Florian co-led the private equity investment team of a well-known family office in London. Previously, he was an Associate Director at Terra Firma Capital Partners, a global private equity firm, where he focused on subordinated debt investments across several industries and geographies. He started his career as a corporate lawyer at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York. He earned a B.A. from Brown University, a 1. Staatsexamen in Law from Hamburg University and an LL.M. in Financial and Corporate Law from Fordham University. Florian is a member of the New York bar.

Markus Wenz joined Rantum in an equity investment role in June 2020. Prior to this, he worked at DPE Deutsche Private Equity as well as in M&A at Morgan Stanley and Greenhill. Markus studied business management at the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel and at the Tsinghua University in Beijing. Markus also completed a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance at the London School of Economics.

Julia Weise joined Rantum Capital in 2023. She focuses on business development for debt and equity investments. Prior to joining Rantum, Julia was responsible for the acquisition and advisory of entrepreneurs, foundations, and private individuals within the UHNWI division of J.P. Morgan’s Private Bank. Previously, Julia worked as Managing Director for Commerzbank’s private and business customers segment, being responsible for the bank’s sales management throughout Germany. She holds a Master´s Degree in Business Administration from Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg.

Andreas Teufel joined Rantum Capital in April 2016. He focuses on both debt and equity investments. Prior to joining Rantum Capital, he gained experience both in strategy consulting at Stern Stewart & Co. and in transaction advisory, audit and tax consulting at Big4 companies. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Business Administration with specialization in Accounting and Finance from the University of Mannheim.

Maximilian Molzberger joined Rantum Capital in June 2019 and has been involved in several private equity and debt transactions since then. Prior to joining Rantum Capital, he gained experience in auditing at Ernst & Young, transaction advisory at Livingstone Partners as well as corporate M&A at Daimler. Maximilian holds a M.Sc. in Management with specialization in Finance and a B.Sc. in Business Administration with honors from the University of Mannheim.

Finn Ziegenbein joined Rantum Capital in October 2021. Prior to joining, he gained professional experience in corporate banking at HSH Nordbank, transaction advisory at Ernst & Young and most recently as part of the leveraged finance team at Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt. Finn holds a double Master’s degree in Finance from the International School of Management in Frankfurt and Lancaster University (UK). Prior to that, he completed a part-time degree in Business Administration.

Tobias Bauer joined Rantum Capital in September 2022, assisting founders and management teams in transactions involving private equity as well as private debt settings. Prior to joining Rantum, he worked at an international private equity investor focussing on the software industry. There, he supported managements in the expansion of their product portfolio via selective add-on acquisitions, the build-up of nearshoring hubs and the professionalization of back office functions. Tobias holds a Master’s degree from Erasmus University Rotterdam and a Bachelor’s degree from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich.

Ferdinand Weishaupt joined Rantum Capital in September 2021. Prior to joining, he gained professional experience in private equity and debt, transaction advisory, and auditing. Ferdinand holds a Master’s degree in International Finance with distinction from HEC Paris. Previously, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in International Business at Maastricht University including a semester abroad at NTU in Singapore.

Carl-Moritz Feuring joined Rantum Capital in September 2023. Before joining, he gained professional experience in private equity & debt, investment advisory, and auditing. Carl holds a Master’s degree in Finance with specialization in Investment Banking & Private Equity from IE Business School in Madrid. Prior to that, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management.

Jannik Schneider joined Rantum Capital in April 2024. Before joining the firm, he gained professional experience in private equity and debt, M&A and private equity consulting at Rantum Capital, Rothschild & Co, goetzpartners and Saxenhammer. Jannik completed his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management with semesters abroad in Madrid and San Diego.

Stefan Winkeljohann joined Rantum Capital in October 2023 and is parallelly pursuing his PhD on sustainability and ESG topics at the University of Osnabrück. He has previously gained experience in private equity and debt, M&A and venture capital at Rantum Capital, Rothschild & Co, Global Founders Capital and the startup accelerator, Techstars. Stefan holds a Master’s degree in Global Business and Society with specialization in Private Equity and Impact Investing from the Yale School of Management in New Haven. He also graduated with a Master’s degree in Management and Digital Business from IE Business School in Madrid and a Bachelor’s degree in General Management from the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel.

Viktoria Benning joined Rantum Capital in February 2023. Prior to joining Rantum Capital, she gained experience in Investment Controlling at Deutsche Beteiligungs AG as well as M&A at PwC. Viktoria holds a M.Sc. in Business Administration with specialization in Finance from University of Münster and a B.Sc. from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.

Marco Braun has been employed at Rantum Capital since October 2023 in the area of Fund Finance & Controlling. Prior to joining, he worked as a controller at DZ BANK AG and the IT company Operations1 for several years, gaining experience in various financial roles. Mr. Braun holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on banking from the Cooperative State University Baden-Württemberg in Mannheim. Additionally, he completed a master’s degree in business administration with a specialization in finance, insurance, and investment management at the University of Leipzig.

Nicolas Mönter has been working at Rantum Capital since February 2024. Prior to joining, he gained professional experience at Ernst & Young in auditing private equity investment funds in Luxembourg. Previously, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Economics at the University of Münster, including a semester abroad at HSE in Moscow.

Antonius von Rohr joined Rantum Capital in August 2022 as an investment fund management apprentice. Prior to starting his apprenticeship at Rantum, he gained experience in project management, politics and client consulting. In addition, he was involved in founding and successfully building a start-up. Antonius holds a Bavarian Abitur (A-Level) with distinctions from the Gymnasium der Regensburger Domspatzen from 2022.

Lizandra Valdéz is Executive Assistant and Office Manager at Rantum Capital. Before joining Rantum Capital, she spent several years as Executive Assistant and Office Manager at business law firms, an investment bank and a Spanish bank. Lizandra holds a degree as a state-certified foreign language correspondent and paralegal.

Udo Klaeren is responsible for tax & finance at Rantum Capital and also acts as its Chief Compliance Officer. Previously, Udo was with General Electric, most recently as Head of Tax EMEA. He started his career time in various positions with Deutsche Telekom and KPMG. Udo Klaeren is managing partner of the tax consulting firm KLAEREN. He holds a degree in business administration from the University of Trier and received his appointment as chartered tax advisor in 2002.

Dr. Siegfried Schwung is a lawyer and was most recently General Counsel and Head of Corporate Development/M&A at KUKA AG in Augsburg for many years. Prior to that, he headed the law office of Thümmel, Schütze & Partner in Singapore and held various positions within the Daimler AG Group, such as General Counsel Truck in Stuttgart, General Counsel Product in Sindelfingen, General Counsel of DaimlerChrysler Services AG in Berlin and General Counsel of Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Inc. in Tuscaloosa, AL. Dr. Schwung studied law at the universities of Mainz and Dijon.

Dr. Karl-Ludwig Kley is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Healthcare & Pharma. He was previously long-term CEO of Merck, the German DAX-30 pharma company. Currently, Dr. Karl-Ludwig Kley is member of the supervisory board of Lufthansa. Previously he was Chairman of E.ON (the DAX-30 utility company) and a member of the supervisory boards of BMW and Verizon (the Fortune-100 US telecom company). He holds a Ph.D. in law from the LMU University of Munich.

Joachim Hunold is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Tourism & Aviation. He was the founder of Air Berlin and is a member of several Advisory Boards of German Mittelstand businesses.

Dr. Hans-Joachim Körber is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Retail, Consumer Goods, Food & Beverage. He was the long-term CEO of Metro, the DAX-30 German retailer. He started his career at Oetker Group (foods) and Söhnlein Rheingold (beverages). He holds a Ph.D. in Business from the Technical University of Berlin and Master’s degrees in Business as well as Brewery Sciences from Technical University of Berlin.

Wolfgang Hartmann is Chairman of the Investment Committee of Rantum’s debt activities. He spent his professional career with Commerzbank, most recently as a member of the executive board and Chief Risk Officer and before that as Chief Credit Officer. Next to his involvement with Rantum Capital, he is honorary Chairman of Frankfurt Institute for Risk Management and Regulation and teaches risk management courses at the University of Frankfurt. Wolfgang Hartmann holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Frankfurt.

Dr. Lothar Steinebach is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Chemicals. He is looking back on a successful career as long-term CFO of Henkel, the DAX-30 chemicals company. Currently, he is also a member of the supervisory board of Carl Zeiss (manufacturer of optical systems). Dr. Lothar Steinebach holds a law degree from the University of Mainz and an LLM degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

Dr. Kurt Bock is Rantum’s Industrial Partner focusing primarily on business models in the chemicals space. He studied business administration at the University of Cologne as well as at Pennsylvania State University. He started his professional career with German global chemicals player BASF in 1985. After several positions both in Germany and abroad, he joined the executive board of BASF in 2003 and was acting CEO of BASF from 2011 to 2018. Since 2020, Dr. Kurt Bock is the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BASF as well as member of the Supervisory Board of BMW and Chairman of Baden-Baden Entrepreneur Talks (BBUG).

Dr. Christoph Franz is Rantum’s Industrial Partner with a particular focus on investments in Switzerland, the pharma industry as well as in the transportation sector. His professional career comprises positions as Chairman of Roche, CEO of Lufthansa and Swiss International Airlines as well as executive board member of German Railways (Deutsche Bahn). He is currently inter alia non-executive board member at Stadler Rail as well as ZURICH insurance. Dr. Franz studied industrial engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt, where he also earned a PhD in economics and social sciences.

Wilfried Porth is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for the automotive industry as well as the engineering and machine making industries. Wilfried Porth graduated in engineering at the University of Stuttgart. He then joined Daimler where he held various leading management positions, including Head of the transporter business unit as well as CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus in Japan. From 2009 to 2021, Wilfried Porth served as member of the executive board of Daimler AG. Amongst his responsibilities were human resources and international procurement services. Until 2022 he served in parallel as Chairman of the important German industry association Südwestmetall, comprising many engineering and automotive companies in the South-West of Germany.

Karlheinz Kögel is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for IT, Digital & Media. He is the founder and long-term CEO of Media Control and l’tur, two successful Mittelstand companies in the media and tourism space. He is also the initiator of the German Media Award (Deutscher Medienpreis) and representative of the Clinton Foundation in Europe.

Thomas Ebeling is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for IT, Digital & Media, Healthcare & Pharma. He is the former CEO of ProSieben.Sat1 (the German DAX-30 media company) and is currently a member of several supervisory boards, e.g. market research institute GfK. He previously held various senior positions at Novartis, most recently as an executive board member responsible for the pharmaceuticals division. Thomas Ebeling holds a graduate degree in Psychology from the University of Hamburg.

Prof. Dr. Ewald Nowotny is Rantum´s Industrial Partner for Macroeconomics, Financial Services and Austria. He is the former Governor of the Austrian Central Bank (OeNB), Member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB), CEO of BAWAG P.S.K. and Member of the Board of the European Investment Bank. He is President of the Austrian Society for European policy (ÖGfE) and was Member of the University Council of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration.

Dr. h. c. Frank-Jürgen Weise is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Logistics, Services, Staffing & HR. After having successfully founded, stock listed, and sold national logistics champion Microlog Logistics AG, Frank Weise decided to give back some of his experience to society and served as president of Germany’s National Labour Agency (BA) from 2004-2017 as well as the National Refugee Agency (BAMF) from 2015-2016. He is currently the acting chairman of the board of Hertie-Foundation since 2014.

Klaus Eberhardt is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Automotive, Metal-Processing and Industry 4.0. He is looking back on a long-term successful career as CEO of Rheinmetall (the MDAX defense and automotive supplier). Currently, he is Chairman of Elring Klinger (automotive supplier). Klaus Eberhardt holds a graduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Tuebingen.

Burchard von Arnim is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Tax & Accounting. He is the founder and CEO of von Arnim Private Consulting GmbH, a mid-market tax advisory, audit, and accounting firm with offices in Dusseldorf and Hamburg, mainly advising small and mid-market companies and their founders on topics such as M&A and the structuring of generational transfers. Burchard von Arnim started his career at the German audit firm BDO Wirtschaftsprüfung AG. He earned a Diplom-Kaufmann (M.B.A. equivalent) from the University of Cologne. He is a certified public accountant in Germany (Wirtschaftsprüfer).

Roman Kainz is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Trade, Asia and Switzerland. He is the founder and CEO of Euro China Group, a German Mittelstand trade & commerce firm. His earlier career includes senior leadership positions at Kienbaum, BMW, and Metro. He holds an MBA degree from IMD Lausanne.

Hendrik Borggreve is Rantum’s Industrial Partner for Financial Services. He is looking back on a successful career with senior leadership positions at Salomon Brothers, Kleinwort Benson, ABN Amro, and Royal Bank of Scotland. Hendrik Borggreve is a trained lawyer and member of the Frankfurt bar.

Dr. Rolf Martin Schmitz is Rantum`s Industrial Partner for renewable and conventional energies as well as energy-related services and infrastructure. He was CEO of RWE AG and currently is a member of the Supervisory Board of E.ON SE, Encavis AG, and Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of KELAG AG in Klagenfurt. Dr. Schmitz studied engineering at RWTH Aachen, where he obtained his doctorate in 1985.

Prof. Dr. Franz Guenthner is Senior Advisor for IT, Software & Digital Disruption at Rantum Capital. He can look back on a long international academic career and is a worldwide acknowledged pioneer in the area of internet search engines. He occupied the Chair of Computational Linguistics at Munich’s Ludwig-Maximilians-University from 1990 to 2013. Prof. Dr. Franz Guenthner contributed to the success of several startups in the IT and online search space, including AltaVista and AlltheWeb.

Dr. Hans-Peter Sollinger is Rantum’s Senior Advisor for Machine Making, Capital Goods and Automation. He is looking back to a successful career as long-term engineer in the executive board of Voith (one of the largest family-owned machine makers in Germany). He is member of the Supervisory Boards of several German Mittelstand companies.
